Cub Scout First Aid KitNovember 20th Meeting – Cub Scout First Aid

The very first night I was with the Pack, we asked 2 teams to make up skits of what they wanted to do this year. One of the skits showed a youth getting hurt and the other Cubs helping before the hurt Cub went to the hospital. I don’t know about you, but that to me says First Aid night.

With 4 stations, each Six would venture around and learn new skills while building their own First Aid Kit. We were fortunate to have 3 guest MedVents and MedRovers to help run our First Aid night. To start the night off, during Grand Howl Raksha felt very light headed and “fainted”. The Med team came in on cue to kick start our night with an oxygen tank and AED demonstration.

Here’s what we did:

Station A: What to do in an emergency.

  • What is First Aid?
  • How to approach someone who needs help
  • When you should help versus call for 911
  • The recovery position

Item received: Bag to contain their Kit, tissues, 2 large safety pins

Station B: Burns, Scalds and Bug Bites

  • Blistering
  • Discuss allergies to different bugs/plants
  • What to do if your clothing catches on fire

Item received: 2x Blister Bandaid, 3x Gauze pads

Station C: Minor Cuts

  • Cleaning scraps
  • Choosing the right bandage

Item received: Various Bandaids x4, Antiseptic Wipe x2

Station D: Frostbite and Hypothermia

  • What is Frostbite
  • What is Hypothermia
  • How to treat both/recognize it’s happening

Item Received: 1x Hand warmer

Badges Earned: First Aider
Total cost per kit (based on 20): $3.80/each. Take away the Hand warmer to knock $1.05 off the price.
